Maria No. 13 WTA !

After she won her 1st tournament of 2010, Maria Sharapova is now No. 13 WTA with 3105 points.

This is the highest ranking after her comeback.

Maria Sharapova - Queen in Memphis !!!




Maria has won her 1st title of 2010 and her 21st career title at the Cellular South Cup in Memphis.  Maria defeated Sofia Arvidsson 6-2 6-1 in 1 hour and 6 minutes in the final.


The match lasted 66 minutes. Maria was dominating on her serve, winning 81% of points on first serve and 59% on second serve, and she saved all 3 break points she faced throughout the match. By comparisson, when Arvidsson was serving, Maria won 41% of points on first serve and 75% on second serve, and broke 4 times, out of 5 chances.


Maria's game was consistent in both sets, in the second set, she served better, landing 70% of first serves in, comparing to 57% in the first set, but other than that, her performance both on the serve and the return was pretty consistent.


In the new Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings to be released on Monday, Maria will move up to #13 (her highest ranking since coming back from shoulder surgery last May).

Maria in final@Memphis !


Maria is in the Memphis final after she defeated Petra Kvitova from Czech Republic in two sets: 6-4, 6-3 after one hour and 20 minutes.

In the final Maria`s opponent is Sofia Arvidsson from Sweden. They played just once and the score is 1-0 for Maria, but that was long time ago, in 2003.

Maria is now in the semifinals at the Cellular South Cup in Memphis after she defeated Elena Baltacha from U.K. in two sets: 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 32 minutes.

In semifinals Maria will play against favourite no.5 of the tournament - Petra Kvitova from Czech Republic. They never played before.

Quarter-finals in Memphis !

Maria defeated Bethanie Mattek from U.S. in two sets: 6-1, 6-1 and is now in the quarters!


In quarter-finals will play against Elena Baltacha, favourite no.8 of tis tournament. Maria and Elena Baltacha never played before.

Maria won in the 1st round at Memphis after 2 sets against Shenay Perry : 6-0, 6-2 in 51 minutes.


In 2nd round Maria Sharapova will play against no. 137 Bethanie Mattek from US. Maria has played 3 times before against Mattek and the score is 3-0 for Maria.

Maria in Memphis !

Maria's next tournament will be the Regions Morgan Keegan and the Cellular South Cup in Memphis which will begin on February 14th and is played on hardcourts indoors.

The draw will be made next Friday and Maria will be taking part in the draw ceremony.  Maria is top seed and will play her 1st round match on Monday 14th February at 19.00 local time.

Next Friday, Maria will be making a visit to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
