Victory in 3rd Round !

Excellent win for Maria in 3rd Round at US Open. She deefated Sabine Lisicki of Germany in straight sets: 6-2, 6-4 and books a spot in 4th Round.

After the game, Maria said: "She was a really tough opponent, a very aggressive big server. I just tried to concentrate on my return. I wasn't serving as well as I wanted to. In the end it was a few points. I was happy I was able to break her."

"She's a very dangerous and tricky opponent, and she's capable of playing really well at the Slams and always raising her level against the top players.That was something I was very well aware of. I thought I stepped up to the challenge."

In 4th Round, Maria will play against Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. On head to head, Maria leads Wozniacki: 5-2. Their last match was in 2013 in Indian Wells where Maria won in straight sets: 6-2, 6-2.

After the match, Maria said: "She played really well. I started off really well, but didn't take the opportunity to go up 3-0. Then she started getting a little bit of a rhythm. The conditions were tough. You start in the sun; you finish under the lights. It was a very long match, but in the end I felt like I was in superior shape and could have played a few more sets. Mentally, that helped me a lot."

""It's really good to get through a match like this, where you put yourself in a really tough position, but then you're able to find a way to get back in it and finish really strong."

Maria won her 1st Round match in New York at US Open against Maria Kirilenko in straight sets: 6-4, 6-0 after one hour and 29 minutes of play. Maria has now 17-0 record in night matches at Flushing Meadows.

End of story at Western & Southern Open for Maria. She lost in semifinals against Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in 3 sets: 2-6, 7-5, 5-7 after 2 hours and 46 minutes of play.

The next tournament for Maria is the last Grand Slam of the year, US Open ! The tournament begins on August 25.

Another great fight between Maria and Simona Halep of Romania at Western & Southern Open. Maria won in 3 sets: 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Also congratulations to Simona. Great player !

Another step forward for Maria after she defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia in straight sets: 6-4, 7-6 after one hour and 58 minutes of play.

After this match, Maria said: "I had a tough opponent, considering I lost to her in the beginning of the year. I was happy to get my revenge in Stuttgart, but I knew coming in that she's an aggressive player. I had to try to take that away from her. I'm happy that I was able to win the match in two sets."



Af In Cincinnati QF, Maria will play against Simona Halep of Romania. About the next match, Maria said: "We have played on hard, but it was a long time ago. Our matches this year have been on clay courts, so this will be a pretty new encounter. We know each other's games very well because we played quite recently in the middle of the season. She's having one of her best seasons. Obviously being No.2 in the world is a really big achievement. It will be a tough match."

Great fight in Cincy debut

Maria won her 2nd Round match in Cincinnati against Madison Keys in 3 sets: 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 after one hour and 56 minutes.

After the match, Maria said: "Against Madison, someone who serves really well, it's always one or two moments that are really crucial in the match. In the first set I returned quite well and broke her a few times. She got a bit more consistent on her groundstrokes in the second set and there were some moments at the beginning of that second set where I felt that I could have taken the lead and broken her. I didn't do that, and she stepped it up and was able to break me a couple more times. But ultimately I was happy with the beginning of the third set. That was really crucial."

In 3rd Round, Maria will play either Karin Knapp from Italy or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia.

Victory for Maria in Montreal after she defeated Garbine Muguruza of Spain in 2nd Round at Rogers Cup: 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 after 2 hours and 11 minutes of play.

After the match, Maria said: "It's been a few weeks since I've been in a competitive atmosphere. It's always quite different than practice no matter how much you train. Once you step on the court, you feel the energy from the crowd and you get inspired by everything, but you're ultimately a bit rusty. I'm just happy that I got through that and won today because I had a very tough opponent."

Vi In 3rd Round, Maria will play agianst another spanish player, this time against Carla Suarez Navarro. On head to head, Maria leads Navarro: 1-0. Their single match was last year in Indian Wells, when Maria won in straight sets: 7-5, 6-3.

About her next opponent, Maria said: "She's a different type of opponent than I played today. She has a little bit more variety, a one-handed backhand, uses her slice extremely well, and also moves around the court quite well. I expect a physical match from her. You never quite know what you're going to get, especially when you haven't faced an opponent in a while. I'm looking forward to it."
