First hard test in China
Maria made another great come-back in 2nd Round at Wuhan Open. She defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in 3 sets: 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 after 2 hours and 9 minutes of play.
After the match, Maria said: "Svetlana is a very good player, a former Grand Slam champion, and we've had really tough matches in the past. She was a very difficult first opponent for me, so I was happy with the way I played in the second and third sets. I wasn't waiting for her to give me the match. I really stepped up after the first set, and that was really important."
In 3rd Round match, Maria will play either Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland or Ekaterina Makarova of Russia.

US Open 2014 - End of story
Maria lost in 4th Round against Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in 3 sets: 4-6, 6-2, 2-6 after 2 hours and 37 minutes of play.
After this 4th Round match, Maria said: “It's so easy to forget that you get yourself back in such a great position in your career where you win a Grand Slam, you're playing the US Open, which you missed last year.I have never really had an easy journey to this step of where I am today. From my days in Russia to even now, we always go through challenges and adversity. I think we’re still not sitting here today saying I’m the strongest person physically or mentally, because I always want to improve.”
The next tournament in Maria`s schedule is Wuhan Open. This tournament is at his first edition and it will start on September 21st.

Runner-up at China Open
Unfortunately Maria lost the Beijing final against Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in straight sets: 3-6, 1-6 after one hour and 27 minutes of play.
Not a good day for Maria, during all the final she had 18 winners, only 1 ace, 7 double-faults, 39 unforced errors and 62% percentage on the first serve.
Maria has already qualified for TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul which is the next tournament where we can see her.
The tournament begins on October 23.

First time in Beijing Final
Maria qualified to Beijing final for the first time in her career after she defeated Na Li of China in straight sets: 6-4, 6-0 after one hour and 41 minutes of play.
Like a paradox, even if Maria won the first set (6-4) the statistics were not so good for her. In the first set she had only 7 winners, 19 unforced errors and 3 aces. This first part was very disputed, first set lasted one hour and 9 minutes.
At 1-0 in second set, Maria made the break and leaded 3-0 after she won her serve. At 3-0, Maria made once again the break and it was 5-0 after Li was close to recover one of the breaks.
In the end, Maria won the second set (6-0) and the match with a break and during all match she had 22 unfoced errors, 8 winners, 5 double-faults, 3 aces and 59% percentage on the first serve.
In Beijing final Maria will play either Victoria Azarenka of Belarus or Marion Bartoli of France.

Perfect match and semifinals spot
Maria made a perfect match in quarters at China Open. She dominated Angelique Kerber of Germany. Maria won the match after the german player retired at the score: 6-0, 3-0 for Maria.
So, 9 games in a row for Maria in less than one hour. She had 60% percentage on her first serve, made 19 winners,, 10 double-faults and 2 aces.
After this incredible match Maria is in semifinals at China Open, Beijing. She will play either Na Li of China or Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

Maria in Beijing Quarters
Maria had no problem in 3rd round at China Open. She defeated Polona Hercog of Slovenia in straight sets: 6-0 6-2 and she is in quarterfinals.
In quarters Maria will play either Angelique Kerber of Germany or Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

Maria reach 3rd Round in Beijing
Straight set victory for Maria in 2nd round at China Open. She defeated Sorana Cirstea of Romania: 6-2, 6-2.
In first set, Maria made the break when the score was 1-1 and leaded 3-1 after she won her serve. At 4-2, Maria made again the break and she served to win the first set.
In the end, Maria won the first set (6-2) after 35 minutes with 9 winners, 8 unforced errors and 55% percentage at first serve.
Maria made the break in the beginning of the second set and leaded 2-0 after she won her game. Like in the first set, at 4-2 Maria made the break and she serve to win the second set and the match.
Eventually she won the second set (6-2) and the second round match against Sorana Cirstea after one hour and 18 minutes with 20 winners, 14 unforced errors, 3 aces, 2 double-faults and 55% percentage on the first serve.
In 3rd round, Maria will play against Polona Hercog of Slovenia. The slovenian player is No. 90 in WTA Rankings. This will be the first match between them.

Maria moves to 2nd Round in Beijing
Maria won her first round match in Beijing against Simona Halep of Romania in straight sets: 7-5, 7-5.
As you can see both of the sets were tough for Maria against Halep. She won the first set after 55 minutes with 16 winners and 21 unforced errors.
Maria won the second set with the same score like the first one and the match after one hour and 52 minutes with 39 unforced errors, 33 winners and with 69% percentage on the first serve.
In second round, Maria will play against another player from Romaina. This time Sorana Cirstea will be her opponent. This will be the first match between them.
