Long and tough battle for Maria against Marion Bartoli of France but she managed to win this quarterfinal match in 3 sets: 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 after 2 hours and 32 minutes and reached to semifinals at US Open 2012.
Maria started slow the quarterfinal match against Bartoli. She was leaded 0-2 in the beginning of first set. At 0-3, Maria lost again her serve and the match was suspended due to rain.
The next day this quarterfinal continued and Maria made the break when the score was 0-4 and the score looked even better after she won her serve: 2-4.
Playing not so good, Maria lost the first set: 3-6 after 46 minutes with 13 winners and 11 unforced errors.
In second set, Bartoli received a big present from Maria. The french player made the break in the beginning of the second set after Maria made 3 double-faults but she made the rebreak and the score was tied at 1.
At 4-3, Maria made the break and leaded confortably for the first time in this match: 5-3. After this break Maria serve to win the second set.
In the end, Maria won the second set: 6-3 after 49 miuntes with 18 winners and 14 unforced errors.
In 3rd set at 1-1, Maria made the break but Bartoli rebreaked immediately and the score was 2-2. At 4-4, Maria made the break on the right time and after served to win the 3rd set and the match.
Maria won the 3rd set: 6-4 and the match for a place in semifinals at Flushing Meadows
In semifinals, Maria will play against Victoria Azarenka of Belarus. On head to head, Maria is leaded by Azarenka, 4-5. Their last match was this year in Stuttgart final when Maria won in straight sets: 6-1, 6-4.
