The defending champion had a tough match in 2nd round at Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, but Maria managed to defeat Lucie Safarova in 3 sets: 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 after 3 hours and 9 minutes.
After this great fight, Maria will play against another strong player. In Stuttgart quarters, Maria will play against Ana Ivanovic of Serbia.
On head to head Maria leads Ivanovic: 5-2. Their last match was last year in Rome where Maria won in straight sets: 7-6, 6-3.
