Pushed to the limit
Tough match for Maria at Indian Wells against Kirilenko. In first set, Kirilenko lead 2-0 after she won a break early in the set. At 3-0 for Kirilenko, Maria Sharapova won her first game of the match and after made the break but after this important moment she lost again her serve (2-4).
In the end, Maria Sharapova lost the first set, 3-6 after 43 minutes with 18 unforced errors.
In the beginning of the second set, Maria Sharapova lost again her serve and at 2-1 for Kirilenko, Sharapova made the break and the situation was equal, 2-2. At this score Sharapova saved 6 break points and leaded Kirilenko for the first time in this quarterfinal. After this important game, Sharapova made the break for a 4-2 lead, but Kirilenko made the rebreak immediately.
Finally, after she lost 4 set balls, Sharapova won the second set, 7-5 after 1 hour and 36 minutes.
The 3rd set was easier, because Kirilenko made some unforced errors and double-faults wich helped Maria Sharapova to win this 3rd set and the match after more than 3 hours of play.
So, Maria won this long and tough match in 3 sets: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Maria must recover fast after this quarterfinal because in semifinals she will play against Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. The overall score between Maria and Ivanovic is 3-2 for Maria. The last match was 4 years ago, in the Australian Open final when Maria won the trophy (7-5, 6-3).
