Maria is in semifinals after she won the quarterfinal match against Kim Clijsters of Belgium in straight sets: 6-2, 7-5 after one hour and 27 minutes of play.
Maria started well the match against the player from Belgium. She made the break in debut. At 2-1, Maria lost her serve and the score was tied by Clijsters at 2.
At 2-2, Maria rebreaked for a 3-2 lead and made 4-2 after she won her serve.
Maria made another break at 4-2 and she served to win the first set. In the end, Maria won the first set (6-2) after 39 minutes with 8 unforced errors and 10 winners.
In second set, the first break was made by Maria at 1-1. At 3-2, Maria lost her serve and the score was 3-3.
At 5-5, Maria made the break in a perfect moment and after served for the second set and the match.
Maria won the second set (7-5) and the match.
In semifinals, Maria will play against Kirilenko. On head to head, Maria leads Kirilenko: 3-2. Their last match was this year in Indian Wells where Maria won in 3 sets: 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
