Maria begins her title defense in Rome with a win. She defeated Garbine Muguruza of Spain in straight sets: 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 4 minutes.
After this victory Maria is in 3rd round at Internazionali BNL d`Italia and she will play either Sloane Stephens of United States or Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands.
On head to head, Maria leads Sloane Stephens: 1-0 and if Maria will play against Bertens it will be the first match between them.
