After Sony Ericsson Open in Miami where Maria played the final (the same result like in 2011) she is on the same position, No. 2 with 7930 points.

Too many errors for a final

The first and the last break of the first set was at 5-6. Maria lost her serve and of course the set: 5-7 after 57 minutes of play with 16 winners and 25 unforced errors.

The same situation was in the second set, but this time at 4-5 when Maria lost again her serve in a crucial moment.

So, Maria lost the Sony Ericsson Open final against Agnieszka Radwasnka of Poland in straight sets: 5-7, 4-6. A final with only 2 breaks but breaks lost by Maria in important moments of the match. This was the third final of 2012 after Australian Open and Indian Wells.

Next tournament where Maria will participate is Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on clay.

Maria in Miami final !

Maria is the first finalist at Sony Ericsson Open in Miami after she won a disputed match in semifinals against Caroline Wozniacki.

Maria made the break in the beginning of the match and after won her serve for a 2-0 lead. At 3-1 Maria made the break again and leaded Wozniacki 4-1 but the danish player recovered on break immediately (4-2). At 4-3 Maria made 3 double-faults and she lost her serve and the score was tied at 4. At 4-5, Maria served to remain in the first set but Wozniacki made the break. So, Maria lost the first set, 4-6 after 56 minutes.

Like in the first set, Maria made the break in the beginning of the second set and after that won her serve (2-0). After 2 breaks, Maria leaded 4-0 and that is when Wozniacki won her first game of this second set. The situation was identical like in the first set, but this time Maria made 5-1. In the end, Maria won the second set: 6-2 after 40 minutes playing much better than the first set.

In third set at 2-2, Maria made the break and leaded Wozniacki: 4-2 after she conserved her service. In this good period of the game, Maria made another break for a 5-2 lead. At 5-2 Maria served for the match but Wozniacki made the break. At 5-4, Maria served again for the match and this time she won the game, the set and the match after 2 hours and 33 minutes: 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 with 46 unforced errors, 50 winners and with 71% percentage at first service.

In the last act, Maria will play either Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland or Marion Bartoli of France. Against Bartoli the score is 4-0 for Maria and the last match was in 2010 at Cincinnati where Maria won in quarterfinal: 6-1, 6-4. Against Radwanska, Maria leads 7-1 and the last match was at Roland Garros, last year when Maria won in 4th Round: 7-6, 7-5.

Strong performance !

Maria won the match against Na Li of China in straight sets: 6-3, 6-0 after one hour and 8 minutes. Is the first victory of Maria over Li since 2009.

After this strong performance, Maria is in semifinals  at Sony Ericsson Open, Miami. In semifinals she will play either Serena Williams of U.S. or Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.

Maria is leaded by Serena Williams on head to head (7-2), their last match was in 2011 in Stanford where Serena Williams won in straight sets: 6-1, 6-3. Maria leads Wozniacki (3-2), last match was also in 2011 in Rome semifinal when Maria won: 7-5, 6-3.

-> 2-2. The 4th consecutive break.
-> 3-2 for Maria. Again, break.
-> 4-2 for Maria. She capitalized the break by winning her serve.
-> 4-3 for Maria. Li won the game on her serve.
-> 5-3 for Maria. She managed to win her game on service at zero.
-> 6-3 for Maria. She made the break and won the first set in 33 minutes with only 9 unforced errors.

Tough !

Maria was tested by Makarova in 4th Round at Sony Ericsson Open. At 3-2, in the first set, Maria made the break and after that she won her serve for a 5-2 lead.
When Maria served for the set, Makarova made the break, but after that Maria made the reabreak and won the first set (6-4) after one hour.

In the beginning of the second set Maria won her serve and after that made the break for a 2-0 lead. At 2-0, Makarova made the break and shortly after that the score was tied at 2.

At 3-3, Makarova made the break with some help from Maria who made 3 double-faults during that game, but she made the reabreak very fast. Same story happened at 5-5 and it was a tie-break in the second set.

Maria won the tie-break at 3. During the entire match, Maria made 11 double-faults and 53 unforced errors, so not the best day for Maria but it`s important that she managed to win this match.

So, after 2 hours and 13 minutes, Maria defeated Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets: 6-4, 7-6 and she is in quarterfinals where she will play either Na Li of China or Sabine Lisicki of Germany.

Another victory for Maria !

After 1 hour and 30 minutes, Maria is in 4th Round at Sony Ericsson Open in Miami after she defeated Sloane Stepehens in straight sets: 6-4, 6-2.

In 4th Round, Maria will play against Ekaterina Makarova of Russia. The overall score between them is 3-0 for Maria. The last match between them was this year at Australian Open, where Maria won in straight sets: 6-2, 6-3. Makarova is No. 41 WTA.

Tough test in 2nd Round

Maria had a difficult match in 2nd Round at Sony Ericsson Open in Miami against Shahar Peer of Israel. She lost the first set, but fortunately she managed to win the second and the third set. So, it was a 3 set match for Maria: 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 after 2 hours and 24 minutes !

After this tough test, Maria is in 3rd Round and the next opponent will be Sloane Stephens of United States. This will be the first match between Maria and Stephens.

Maria@Sony Ericsson Open

Maria will be present at Sony Ericsson Open in Miami, a tournament which starts on 20th of March and she has a bye in first round.

In second round, Maria will play either Shahar Peer of Israel or a qualifier. The overall score between Maria and Peer is 5-0 for Maria and their last match was last year in Rome on clay, where Maria won in straight sets: 6-2, 6-2.

Too many 'gifts'

Maria lost the final at BNP Paribas Open - Indian Wells in 2 sets: 2-6, 3-6 after only 1 hour and 26 mintes.
She had 17 winners but the number of unforced errors was huge: 37 !

Another final lost this year against Victoria Azarenka after Australian Open. Too bad !

The next tournament where we can see Maria is Sony Ericsson Open - Miami. Last year Maria reached to the last act where she was defeated by the same Victoria Azarenka.
