Maria won the 2nd round match against Christina McHale of United States at Mutua Madrid Open. She defeated the american player in straight sets: 6-1, 6-2 after one hour and 6 minutes.
After this victory, Maria is in 3rd round where she will play against Sabine Lisicki of Germany.
On head to head Maria leads Lisicki: 4-1. Their last match was in 2012 at the Olympics in 3rd round where Maria won in 3 sets: 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
