Maria won her 3rd round match at BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells against Simona Halep of Romania but not without problems. Halep caused a lot of trouble in the second set where Maria lost 4 opportunities to win the match, so 4 match points lost.
But the 5th match ball was the lucky one and Maria won in straight sets: 6-3, 6-4 against Simona Halep after 1 hour and 36 minutes.
The number of unforced errors was a little bit too high: 38, but she survived with her 24 winners and with a good percentage on first serve: 73%.
After this important victory, Maria reached to the 4th round where she will play against Roberta Vinci of Italy for a place in quarters.
They played one against each other one match in 2007 at US Open where Maria won in straight sets: 6-0, 6-1.
