First victory for Maria at Wimbledon. She defeated Anastasia Rodionova of Australia in straight sets: 6-2, 6-3 after one hour and 10 minutes.
Maria started well the first round match, leading 2-0 after she won her serve in debut of the match and after she made the break. At 3-0, it was another break for Maria and Rodionova in 4 games won only one point.
At 5-1, Rodionova made the break after she saved 4 set points. In the end, Maria won the first set, 6-2.
In second set, at 2-1 Maria made the break and after that she won on Rodionova`s serve for a confortable lead (4-1). At 4-1, Maria made again the break and she served for the match, but she lost her serve and the score was 5-2.
Maria won the second set at 3 and the match.
In second round, Maria will play against Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria. On head to head, Maria leads Pironkova 3-0 and their last match was 2 years ago in Beijing where Maria won in two sets: 6-4, 7-6.
